Popular antidepressant PAXIL (generic: paroxetine) linked to heart defects in newborns. Free compensation and evaluation through http://browardfree.info/public/legalaid/paxil/
Paxil (paroxetine) is one of a class of medicines called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). Paxil was first approved in the United States on December 29, 1992, for the treatment of depression. Paroxetine is available as Paxil, Paxil CR, Pexeva, and generic paroxetine hydrochloride. It is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, a large pharmaceutical company with reported earnings of $43.7 billion.
Since September, 2005 information has been coming out that Paxil may cause birth defects, including cardiac (heart), pulmonary (lung), neural-tube defects (brain and spinal cord), craniosynostosis (abnormally shaped skull), infant omphalocele (abdominal wall defects), club foot (one or both feet turn downward and inward), and anal atresia (complete or partial closure of the anus). The FDA issued an alert in July 2006 warning about the increased risk of Neonatal Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension (PPHN) by mothers taking SSRI antidepressants such as Celexa (citalopram), Fluvoxamine, Lexapro (escitalopram), Paxil (paroxetine), Prozac (fluoxetine, Symbyax (olanzapine and fluoxetine) and Zoloft (sertraline).

Paxil for Bipolar II disorder
I had tried Paxil twice for depression. Both of my parents were taking it with good results, but neither of them was bipolar. The first time I took 10 mg. of Paxil, within an hour, my blood pressure went sky high and my pulse was 120 and felt like it was banging against my chest. I tried it a second time about two years later and the same thing happened. Later I had a doctor who said that this was not an uncommon reaction to Paxil when given to rapid cyclers. He didn’t know why; just said he had seen it happen several times before. Prozac had the same type of effect the one time I tried it.

I started it for slight depression and OCD. It worked okay, but slowly started losing its effect. My doctor started to wean me off and I thought I was dying. I read that Paxil has the worst withdrawal symptoms—it has been compared to coming down from a heroine high. I do not recommend Paxil to anyone. It tooks me months to feel normal again.

Pros: Helps curb panic attacks
Cons: Inability to experience highs or lows
Effective at first. Then it flatlines your personality. Life begins to be Groundhog day. A re-run. Nor real highs or lows. It seems to swallow your emotions. An unnatural existence. But it did help curb my monstrous panic attacks.
