Materials: Clark’s O.N.T. Knit-Crochet, 1 ball each of color 68 Skipper Blue, color 26 Nile Green and color 88 Peach. Milward’s steel crochet hook No. 7.
With Skipper Blue make a tight ch of 30 sts. (Entire tie should be crocheted very firmly.) 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each st of foundation ch. Work should measure 2¼ inches. If longer, take out sts and cut off extra ch’s. Make 2 s c in last st of ch, to increase. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c in each st across, ch 1, turn. 3rd row: S c in each st across, 2 s c in last st, ch 1, turn. 4th to 27th rows incl: Alternate 2nd and 3rd rows, working color pattern as follows: At the end of the 6th row, attach Nile Green and work 2 rows; then 2 rows of Skipper Blue; and 2 rows of Peach; 6 rows of Skipper Blue. This completes the color pattern for the entire tie.
28th row: S c across to next to last st, ch 1, turn. (This is a decrease to shape side of tie.) 29th row: S c across, 2 s c in last st. Ch 1, turn. 30th to 41st rows incl: Alternate 28th and 29th rows. From here on, to shape tie, make 1 increase every 6th row, and 1 decrease every other row, until there are 13 stripes in the pattern. Tie should now measure 1¼ inches in width. For the next 15 inches, work as follows: Odd row: S c across, 2 s c in last st, ch 1, turn. Even row: S c across to next to last st, ch 1, turn.
Shape other end of tie by increasing 1 st every 2 inches. When the tie has 31 stripes, work the even row with an s c in every st to bring work to a point. Finish with 6 rows of Blue.
