WASHINGTON — Former Illinois congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison Wednesday for pilfering three-quarters of a million dollars in campaign funds. Mr. Jackson’s wife, Sandi Jackson, a former Chicago alderman, was sentenced to a year in prison for her role in the scheme.
The couple engaged in a “staggering” seven-year stretch of stealing money from campaign funds to buy luxury goods and services, including a $43,350 gold-plated Rolex watch, $5,687 for a holistic retreat in Martha’s Vineyard, more than $5,000 on capes and furs, and $1,500 on a cashmere cap.
