Who Can Get Free Tax Help?

You qualify for free tax help if you earn less than $40,000. You can go to any of the dozens of IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance locations to prepare your return. In addition, the Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program gives free tax help to those who are 60 and older.

What To Bring With You

• Photo ID
• Social Security cards for the taxpayer, spouse and dependents
• Birth dates for all dependents
• Tax forms, if you received them in the mail
• Your W2 Wage and earning statements. And forms W-2G and 1099-R, if you have them
• Copy of last year's federal tax return and state return, if you filed one
• Interest or dividend statements from banks, Forms 1099
• Bank account and routing numbers, for direct deposit of any refund
• Total amount you paid for day care
• Day care provider's tax identification number
• Any other relevant information about income or expenses
